Aziz Ansari discusses topics such as immigration, being the child of immigrants, factory farming, misogyny, dating and romance in the s, how technology makes meaningful connections difficult, and over-reliance on the Internet to help make trivial decisions. The performance was recorded in October He chose this, and a series of images on a digital screen, to demonstrate his ambition and imagination. Before he performed at Madison Square Garden, a large venue at which few standup comedians had performed, he sought advice from Chris Rock, a mentor who had performed there previously.

Rock advised him to concentrate more on his jokes than the spectacle. Ansari attributed the change in the topics he addressed to maturing and growing older. In order to make the stadium show interesting for the audience, he was inspired by music tours, such as the Watch the Throne tour, and he recruited people who had worked on that production. Ansari was originally going to shoot the special in Toronto, but Rock convinced him to do so at Madison Square Garden, which Rock felt was more appropriate.

The film was released March 6, , exclusively on Netflix. It was dedicated to the memory of Harris Wittels, Ansari’s close friend and a writer on Parks and Recreation , who died February Zinoman wrote, “And while he’s a thoughtful observer, Mr. Ansari’s ideas can too often seem derivative. Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times called it “worlds more thoughtful, enlightened, inward-looking and outward-aware” than his television performances.

Aziz Ansari – Live!

Aziz Ansari has been popping up all over the place lately well, all over my Netflix queue to be specific and the world has fallen in love. Aziz brings a modern twist to the comedy world with his bits on online dating, ghosting, and relationships. He manages to make you laugh while also dishing burns at our generation’s way of dating. That’s what people do now, they pretend to be busy forever, then they conduct this strange psychological experiment, where it’s like, ‘How much hope does this person have?

I kindly requested she play it and heard this gem: ‘Hey, Lydia. It’s Sam.

We meet people, date, getinto and out of relationships, all with the hopeof “Aziz Ansari: Live at Madison Square Garden,” which was released in March of

Watch the trailer. Stand-up comedian and TV star Aziz Ansari delivers his sharp witted take on immigrants, relationships and the food industry. Damn, five reviews and all negative. Don’t worry, I’ve come to shed a positive light on the matter. I’ve enjoyed his comedy on shows like Parks and Recreation and his own show Master of None. He has this particular goofy and somewhat childish style that seems to work for his little persona and it sorta fits with his image too.

On this special he talks a little bit about immigrants, the food industry he manages to include his Ja Rule impersonation and calls it his “struggle” to be able to combine both in a bit , and I think that his take on how friendships, being single and relationships are nowadays were spot on! He even asked one woman to give him her cellphone so he could read her messages with some guy she was seeing just to prove his previous point.

I’m aware that Aziz’s style may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I had fun and laughed at many of his jokes and I would definitely watch it again.

AZIZ ANSARI: LIVE IN MADISON SQUARE GARDEN (2015) – Full Transcript

Ansari headlines the iconic Madison Square Garden and delivers his most hilarious and insightful stand-up yet. Filmed in front of a sold-out audience, Ansari’s latest special is an uproarious document of the comic in top form — covering topics ranging from the struggle of American immigrants to the food industry to relationships to gender inequality.

Aziz Ansari. I like Ansari a lot, but this was really not his most relatable set for me.

Aziz Ansari on His New Book and How Texting Is Ruining Our Relationships special, Aziz Ansari: Live at Madison Square Garden, premieres Friday, and his Ansari: I had been starting to do this stand-up about dating and.

The allegation of sexual misconduct against Aziz Ansari, published in early on the now-defunct website Babe , doubled as a MeToo Rorschach test. The allegation quickly transformed into an allegory: about consent and its gray areas, about sexual scripts that play out without dialogues, about disordered conceptions of empathy. A version of that show, performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in mid-May, has now been converted, under the direction of Spike Jonze, into a Netflix special, Right Now— which means that Ansari is finally discussing the allegations, not merely in in-person comedy shows, but on a global stage.

And after a year or so, I just hope it was a step forward. And it moved things forward for me; it made me think about a lot. He also hopes, he says—acknowledging the allegorical dimensions of the story—that other people have become better through their exposure to it. Here Ansari pauses. The line serves as a transition and as a broader kind of signpost: The awkward part is over.

We talk about a lot, it turns out, over the next hour: Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Crazy Rich Asians , appropriation, cancellation, Pizza Hut, journalistic think pieces, performative allyship, the misogyny of birth-control pills, the utility of IUDs, the absurdity of the current news environment. Much of it is effective, and much of it is a continuation of what came before: Right Now is sociological in tenor.

Laughing is important. It’s healing and soothing and pretty great. Ansari has done three stand up specials before this one and just wrapped up playing Tom Haverford on NBC’s dearly departed Parks and Recreation. I watched alone well, with my dog in bed and was snort-laughing pretty frequently. I think it may have disturbed the dog. Thanks for the laughs, Aziz.
